Michelle & Joey's Intimate NYC Elopement
Capturing a love that is true to M&J
When discussing their dream elopement, M&J wanted something low-key where they could take a nap after. They wanted a calm day where they could celebrate their love. They got married on their 12th anniversary.
It was so special to capture their morning while they were getting ready. From tasty bagels from a great spot down the street, to putting away some laundry, exchanging gifts and homemade cards, it was like I was there on a typical morning.
To the Clerks Office
After grabbing some coffee, we were able to head over to the New York City Clerk's office, taking the subway from their home station in Astoria. They were congratulated by others on the train and were able to enjoy moments laughing with each other and sharing some of their favorite sights with me.
After about a 40 minute ride, we arrived at our stop and had a nice little walk down to the office. It was special to be able to capture authentic moments like routing to the office on phone GPS, getting a little lost and simply holding hands knowing that in less than an hour, they'd be married!
Upon arrival, we went right through security after confirming appointment time and went right to those classic green couches to wait for their number to be called. Of course, there was a few distracting moments with an amazing wedding gift shop which was fun to look through!
After signing paperwork, even me, I was to be honored to be their witness! We went to another set of green couches to await the officiant. A few moments later, she came out and offered us a private room. Shortly after, Michelle & Joey were married! We all couldn't stop smiling.
City Adventures
After they said "I do", we went on the prowl for lunch. Some pizza places weren't open yet so we went wandering around Little Italy until Michelle found the perfect one. Now that the time rush was off, they were able to just enjoy each other and the fact that they got married.
We all enjoyed some amazing NYC pizza before heading over to their favorite park, Astoria Park. Michelle & Joey spent a lot of time there during covid after moving to the city and were excited to have some pictures there as well.
No Place Like Home
After a nice chilly walk through the city, we headed back to their apartment. Since we were focused on appointment times in the morning, we almost missed the best time which is treat time for their cats. It was so sweet to be able to watch them and their fur babies.
Final Thoughts
This NYC elopement was extra special because of how authentic it was. The day was full of favorite places, food and people (and cats!). It was also a complete honor to be trusted in their home as well as as their witness, photographer and friend. Being able to explore the city with Michelle and Joey on their wedding day is a day I will never forget.
