Once you’ve chosen the spot, share the exact location with me, I even recommend sharing your live location on the day so I know exactly when you will be arriving. I will arrive early to scout the light and angles, and plan where I will be so I am in position without being seen.


2. Pick the Right Time of Day


Lighting can make or break a photo. If possible, plan your proposal during golden hour, which happens in the hour just after sunrise or before sunset. The soft, natural light during this time creates a romantic, flattering glow.


It is also important to consider if your location gets super crowded at this time. I have no problem editing people out, but it is important to think about how intimate of a space you'd like for your proposal.


If golden hour does not work for your timeline, I will help you find shaded areas or the best available light at your chosen location!


3. Communicate the Details in Advance


The more I know, the smoother everything will go. Before the day of the proposal, I will ask you to share:

  • The exact location you’ll be proposing
  • The direction you will be facing
  • What you and your partner will be wearing, so I can spot you easily
  • An estimated timeframe for when it will happen
  • Any signals or cues you’ll use to let me know it’s about to begin
  • A backup plan in case of weather or unexpected changes


Some clients like to share their live location with me on the day of, or send a text when they’re close. I’ll walk you through whatever feels most comfortable.

After the proposal, I will introduce myself before giving you both a moment. When ready, we will usually take a few posed or lightly guided portraits while emotions are still fresh. Some couples keep it quick and casual, while others turn it into a full engagement session. You can decide what feels best for you.

When the big moment happens, I’ll be there quietly documenting from a distance. I do my best to stay out of sight so you can have an authentic, uninterrupted experience.


Once your partner says yes, I usually come over to say a quick congratulations, then step back and give you two a few minutes to yourselves. During that time, I’ll likely keep photographing from a respectful distance to capture those raw, just-engaged emotions.


After you’ve had a few minutes to soak it all in, we’ll ease into some portraits. I’ll guide you through the rest of our time together with gentle direction so you feel relaxed and comfortable in front of the camera.
